Mexican state expects record citrus crop after tough year
The Mexican Citrus Council has forecast a record crop for the state of Tamaulipas this year despite difficult drought conditions in 2011, website Lacapital.com.mx reported.
Council president Ausencio Mata Medina told the website the weather was now favorable after rains, while a lack of disease will also help crops for 2012 and 2013.
The story reported there are now more hectares of pressurized irrigation in the state, which allows for better crop results after tough seasons.
The story reported oranges, grapefruit and lemons as some of the fresh fruit the state will export this year, as well as juices, oils and concentrates.
