Peruvian banana exports rise in Q1
Peruvian organic banana exports were up by more than 30% year-on-year during the first quarter of 2012, website Agraria.pe reported.
The story reported exports hit US$1.8 million for the period with average prices up 2% to US$0.67/kg.
The figures come despite heavy flooding that wiped out crops in several areas of the banana-growing region Piura in February.
The Netherlands accounted for US$1.3 million of shipments, followed by England (US$278,000), the U.S. (US$159,000) the Czech Republic (US$82,000) and South Korea (US$82,000).
