Northern Peruvian blockades come to a close
The northern Peruvian port town of Paita has returned to normal, after fishing industry protesters came to an agreement with authorities late on Friday, website Andina.com.pe reported.
The agreement was to suspend the indefinite strike, as the Ministry of Production published a resolution to extend the fishing catch quota, the story reported.
Piura Office of Advocacy representative César Orrego, told Andina there were still more worker demands that had not been met, with issues relating to education, health, water and labor rights.
"There are requests that will be evaluated in the next meeting which is scheduled for the last week of May," he was quoted as saying.
