Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 17 — 2012 (Apr. 27)

Apples

In North America, Chilean Royal Gala apples maintained good sales rates on the U.S. East Coast as local supply finished up.

In Latin America, the Brazilian market did not show an active sales rate for imported apples, while Royal Gala sales in Colombia were similar to the previous week.

In Europe, the Royal Gala market remained stable while problems with condition were registered for the start of Granny S sales, putting pressure on prices.

In the Middle East, Royal Gala markets were stable and the first Granny S sales were recorded.

In Asia, markets for Royal Gala apples were slow in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, while Granny S apples showed better activity.

Avocados

In North America, positive sales were seen for Hass avocados in the U.S. in the lead up to 5 de Mayo celebrations.

In Latin America, regular sales levels were observed in Chile and Argentina.

In Europe, the U.K. market continued to be slow in placements for Peruvian greenskin avocados.

Easy Peelers

In Europe, satsuma sales on the continent were slow considering the increase in volume from Southern Hemisphere supply. In the U.K. the market was receptive to South African satsuma arrivals.

Kiwifruit

In North America, good sales rates were seen for kiwifruit on the U.S. East Coast.

In Latin America, price adjustments were seen for Chilean supply.

In Europe, sales continued to be dominated by Italian kiwifruit, as the Chilean season slowly got underway.

In the Middle East, the market continued to be supplied by Italian kiwifruit.

In Asia, low prices were seen for Chilean kiwifruit in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, while development in Japan was more stable.

Pears

In North America, the U.S. market continued to be slow for Southern Hemisphere pears.

In Latin America, the season for overseas pear imports remained stable in Brazil and Colombia.

In Europe, the season for overseas pear imports remained stable in Brazil and Colombia.

Pomegranates

In North America, punctual arrivals from Chile and Peru continued, but they have still not been able to register a market.

In Europe, supply was dominated by India and Peru with moderate sales, while slow movement was registered for Southern Hemisphere pomegranates in the U.K.

Stonefruit

In North America, the Chilean plum season was coming to a close in the U.S.

In Latin America, the Chilean plum season was coming to a close in Mexico, while the Brazilian market continue to hold a significant stock of the Angeleno variety.

In Europe, rapid inventory sales were recorded for red and black plums on the continent.

In Asia, sales finished for Chilean plums with lots that presented some problems in Taiwan.

Table Grapes

In North America, the Southern Hemisphere season was starting to finish with low volumes and high variability in condition for Thompson S.

In Latin America, the possibility of price adjustments could not be ruled out in Brazil to rotate inventory of Thompson S grapes in poor condition.

In Europe, the quality and condition of Crimson S and Red Globe arrivals were good enough to achieve sufficient sales rates

In the Middle East, good movement of Thompson S and Crimson S grapes was seen in Dubai..

In Asia, Chilean fruit arrivals started to decline as the season finish drew closer.
