Honduran melon production to rise in 2012-13
The Honduran Federation of Agroexporters has forecast melon production will rise in the 2012-13 season due to improvements in agricultural management, website Laprensa.hn reported.
Federation leader Medardo Galindo told the website production of the crop would grow by 5-10%, which could have been a higher percentage if it weren't for a few phytosanitary issues that are currently being taken care of.
"The growth in the crop will continue to be the same. There are simply improvements in production, yields, and that's what improves the projection," Galindo was quoted as saying.
At current prices export revenue would also likely rise 5% from last year's figure to US$52 million, the story reported.
