Peruvian grape growth could rise in 2014
Peruvian consultancy Maximixe has forecast a 30% year-on-year increase in the country's grape production in 2014, which is expected to reach an estimated 549,100 metric tons (MT).
The group added that greater investment in crop management techniques in growing regions like Lima, Ica and Piura would lead to higher yields from grape vines, at 25.6MT/ha compared to the current 21MT/ha.
Maximixe expects the growth rate for exports will be even greater at 33%, hitting a value of US$631.5 million from 245,000MT of product sent.
The growth rates for production and exports in 2013 are set to be 26.3% and 28.8% respectively.
