A leading supplier of fruit to Eastern Europe has reached a "landmark transaction" with Del Monte Poland, taking over a new banana ripening facility in Warsaw. 

Targban, based in the town of Ożarów Mazowiecki just west of the capital, plans to significantly expand its capabilities with the new facility, while reinforcing its position as a provider of fresh produce solutions to the region's largest retail groups and local wholesale leaders.

"We are pleased with a seamless conclusion of the agreement which enables us to take our capabilities within this strategic segment of our activity to the next level," Targban manager Rafał Bury said in a release.

"Targban is committed to continue its formidable trade relationship with Del Monte, which, established more than a decade ago, allowed for a swift execution of this landmark transaction ago, allowed for a swift execution of this landmark transaction."

Bury told www.freshfruitportal.com the facility, which primarily services the Polish market, had 3,000 square meters of warehousing space and about 400 square meters of office space.

"This year we're are planning an enlargement of the facility so that its ripening capacity grows to 70,000 boxes per week," he said.
