Peruvian grape volume grows across new and old markets
Peruvian table grape exports continue on an upward trend, with estimates placing the 2013-14 season at 47% growth year on year for over US$541 million in value, reported Andina.com.pe.
With just a few weeks remaining in the season, a total 220,240MT had been exported since the beginning of the season in October, according to data from the Peruvian Table Grape Growers Assocation (Provid).
The 2012-13 season also registered growth, at almost 14% for 149,754MT and over US$377 million in value.
Provid reports that Peru exports fresh grapes to 56 countries. With the addition of Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Libya, Cameroon, Gabon and Swaziland, that is seven more countries than in the previous season.
China represents the largest table grape market for Peru, purchasing 53,000MT this season to date and achieving 75% growth.
Other significant import markets are the U.S.(40,000MT), the Netherlands (37,000MT), Russia (21,000MT) and Thailand (12,000MT).
