Driscoll’s set for earlier Mediterranean raspberry peak than normal
Leading international berry company Driscoll's is expecting an earlier peak than usual in its western Mediterranean raspberry volumes.
The entity's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) division has attributed good weather conditions to the earlier production forecast in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
Spain-based Driscoll's agronomist Felix Blazquez said the warmer weather has led to berries growing faster than would normally be expected.
"The rising temperature in all of our Southern countries is making sure that the raspberry plants are accelerating their growth," Blazquez said in a release.
"Especially, Driscoll Maravilla is in Spain a very successful raspberry variety. It is known by growers as a high yielding crop with good quality fruit."
Driscoll's also prides itself in introducing new raspberry varieties into the world market, investing heavily in research.
"We invest a lot in our European breeding programme, because this is the base for bringing delight to consumers. Every year, new promising raspberry varieties are launched, such as Driscoll's® Margarita™ and Driscoll's® Alicia™, which have a lot of potential for the future."
