U.S.: Arkansas company claims blackberry propagation breakthrough
An Arkansas-based company has developed a new blackberry plant reproduction method it claims takes half the time of traditional methods, which could be a boon for the state and the industry as a whole.
In a release, Berries Unlimited said it had studied existing successful propagation practices for the berry, and combined the best techniques with proprietary methodology.
Through this fusion with 'state-of-the-art research' in variable light control and sound resonance, the entity claimed its program not only accelerated growth, but yielded healthier, more robust, disease-resistant plants.
The release said the new propagation method had a potential daily output of 10,000 new plants, which could grow to a sellable size in less than 90 days.
While blackberries are native to the state, the release said it still did not have a certified producer of blackberry plant stock.
However, Berries Unlimited is in the process of gaining this certification, which is due for completion in either the third or fourth quarter of 2014.
