Ireland: SuperValu denies boycott of Israeli produce
Ireland's largest supermarket chain SuperValu has claimed a group email to remove Israeli carrots from the shelves has nothing to do with the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Belfast Telegraph reported.
The announcement follows an order to stores to remove Israeli Chantenay variety carrots from their shelves, while a source from the retailer told Herald.ie the removal applied to the country's fruits and vegetables, especially carrots and herbs.
"SuperValu is not involved in a boycott of Israeli produce and ultimately consumers will make their own purchasing decisions," SuperValu said in a statement given to the Belfast Telegraph.
"We understand that this is an emotive issue. However, we have a policy of not taking a position on international affairs."
