Vietnam approves Syngenta GM corn seed cultivation
Swiss Multinational Syngenta MG has announced commercial cultivation approval for its Bt11 x GA21 corn stack seed in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has given the green light and the double stack will be available for the 2015-16 season.
A release says corn hybrids containing the Bt11 trait are designed to control the Asian corn borer, the most damaging corn pest in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region.
The release added GA21 glyphosate tolerance will also help farmers manage weeds and maximize yield potential.
"Today's (March 17) announcement is another example of the broad potential of our property corn traits," says Syngenta chief operating officer Davor Pisk.
"The decision by the Vietnamese government will give growers access to a wider choice of agricultural technologies and will be a valuable addition to our integrated offers in Vietnam."
