Russian authorities intercept another Polish apple shipment
Russian authorities have blocked another shipment of Polish apples from entering the country, which this time amounted to 58.5 metric tons (MT).
Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said it had intercepted the shipment that was being transported into the country's Omsk region via Kazakhstan.
The agency said on its website that during the documentation check, plant quarantine inspectors found the fruit had a phytosanitary certificate from Poland for the delivery of the product to Kazakhstan.
On August 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a degree banning agricultural imports from the EU, the U.S., Canada and Australia in response to economic sanctions imposed on Russia and certain individuals by those countries.
In addition, on August 1 Russia imposed restrictions on the importation of certain agricultural products, including apples, from Poland.
Last November Rosselkhoznadzor also blocked 21MT of Polish apples from entering the country via Kazakhstan.
