Chile: Body of Fruticola Atacama worker found
The Attorney General of Copiapó in northern Chile has confirmed a body recently found in the sector of Los Loros belongs to Jennifer Novoa, who worked with grape producer Fruticola Atacama.
Fruticola Atacama executive Horacio Parra Sabaj said the body of the 31-year-old was found by police and firemen during works on the Copiapó River.
"She was found buried deep in the mud and we were advised along with the family of Jennifer - her aunt and her husband were staying with us in our camp," he said.
He said the discovery brought "great peace" to Novoa's family, almost a month after flooding and mudslides had destroyed the worker camp where she resided as a seasonal worker.
"The family are taking the body to the south in Angol near Temuco, which is some 1,400km (870mi) away. We are covering the costs of transport, the funeral, cremation and other costs," he said.
"They are relieved that she's been found, that the body isn't just anywhere, but perhaps the biggest pain will come tomorrow or during the funeral," he said on Friday, mentioning the ceremony would likely take place on the morning of Sunday, April 26.
"Unfortunately I can't go to Angol but we are helping in every way we can. We also have life insurance programs for our workers, so we are helping them get that payment."
The finding takes the total death toll from the flood events to 31, including another Fruticola Atacama worker, Peruvian national Sandy Bernal Nieto.
According to Novoa's Facebook page she was in a relationship and was a fan of Shakira, The Simpsons and author Isabel Allende.
She also published a photo of the vineyard where she worked on her page.
