Chile and China engage in fresh produce trade discussions
Phytosanitary health authorities from Chile and China met earlier this month to negotiate a range of issues, including market entry negotiations for white nectarines and pomegranates.
According to a brief published by China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), agency representatives met with Rodrigo Astete from Chile's Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG) in Beijing on March 12.
The report did not go into much detail, but it mentioned discussions were made over Chinese market access for Chilean white nectarines, as well as the potential for Chinese pomegranate export to the South American country.
Additionally, officials looked at Chile's fruit fly situation, frozen fruit issues and fine-tuning protocols for Chilean Hass avocados, which already have access to the Chinese market.
