Reefer boost for United Arab Shipping Company
The United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has ordered 3,500 reefer units following the recent announcement that it is to launch a new north Europe-U.S. East Coast service.Â
The container shipping line will operate the NEU1 service as part of expansion plans for its strategic global network with a weekly sailing service making five direct port calls in North Europe to the ports of Le Havre in France, Antwerp in Belgium, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Bremerhaven in Germany and Southampton in the U.K.
In the U.S. the port calls include New York, Norfolk, Charleston and Savannah.
Following the recent delivery of 2,000 new reefer units, UASC announced an additional 3,500 containers equipped with reefer technology provided by Japanese multinational Daikin.
UASC says the order marks the second milestone in the expansion of its reefer services and reiterates its continued investment in 'cutting-edge, energy-efficient solutions' for shipping chilled cargoes.
"As an emerging global carrier that places customer service at the very heart of our operations, we are continuously exploring enhanced geographical reach and improved products, whilst always safeguarding reliability and service excellence," UASC CEO Jorn Hinge says in a release.
"The US east coast markets provide a significant opportunity for UASC and its customers and these new service offerings mark an important step in UASC's evolution as well as giving a sense of our longer term aspirations."
