Italy: MedAndes service to move to Genoa

A shipping service jointly operated by Hapag Lloyd and Hamburg Süd to Latin America will soon begin to depart from Genoa instead of Savona, according to website Trasportoeuropa.it1024px-Hapag-Lloyd_Antwerpen_Express_ausgehend_Hamburg_Elbe_abwärts_-_August_20131

The MedAndes service will reportedly be moved in September to the Genoa Port Terminal, some 50 kilometers (30 miles) along the northwest Italian coast from Reefer Terminal in Savona.

The change in departure location reportedly comes as a result of the recent merger between Hapag-Lloyd and CSAV, which joined forces in December 2014 to become the fourth-largest container liner shipping company in the world.

The service will reportedly call at Valencia, Salerno, Livorno, Genoa, Barcelona, Valencia, Cartagena (Colombia), Guayaquil (Ecuador), Callao (Peru), San Antonio (Chile), Antofagasta, Mejillones, Iquique, Callao, and Valencia once more.

The service will be capable of shipping refrigerated cargo.

According to the story, an official announcement about the move came from the Hamburg Sud office in Genoa.

The statement said there were currently five ships leaving on a weekly basis, three of which belong to Hapag-Lloyd and the other two to Hamburg Süd.
