India: NZ avocados head to Mumbai as IG International expands portfolio
IG International has began its first ever import campaign shipping New Zealand-grown avocados to India.
Arriving airfreight in Mumbai, this is the inaugural avocado consignment to be marketed by IG International Pvt, Ltd, one of the country’s leading fresh fruit and vegetable import-export companies.
Imported from Delica Ltd, a New Zealand avocado grower and subsidiary of Turners & Growers (NZX:TUR), the avocado launch signals IG International's strategic growth plans and keeps pace with a growing demand amongst health-conscious middle class consumers in Mumbai.
IG International is keen to emphasize the potential health benefits of the 'energy-packed superfood'.
"Potassium is an important mineral that most people don’t get enough of. Avocados are very high in potassium, which should support healthy blood pressure levels," says Mumbai branch manager Sarthak Kakkar in a statement sent to www.freshfruitportal.com.
In addition, he champions the fruit's perceived cholesterol-busting qualities.
IG International's sales campaign includes imports of 5.5kg (12.1lbs) tray packs.
The avocado launch comes shortly after IG International announced its first ever sales campaign for Australian-grown Fremont mandarins, grown by Ironbark Citrus in Queensland.
