BelOrta signals start of sprout season
BelOrta has announced the seasonal launch of Belgian Brussels sprout campaign which promises to continue until March 2016.Â
Around 40 growers are involved in this year’s production of what the Belgian cooperative describes as the 'par excellence' of winter vegetables.
Traditional markets include central and southern Europe, however demand has been increasing from new markets, according to BelOrta, as consumer perceptions tap into the potential 'superfood' qualities of the vegetable which is rich in vitamins A, B and C as well as potassium, phosphorous, magnesium and fiber.
The Flandria-branded sprouts are said to have a powerful flavor, good shape, uniform quality and will come in a variety of packaging and categories, including a hand cleaned and ready-to-cook line.
"The hand cleaned sprouts are a traditional BelOrta specialty acclaimed for their high quality," commercial manager Jo Lambrecht says in a release.
