India: Interest grows in Israeli ag cooperation project
As the Indo-Israel agriculture partnership enters its third phase, there is renewed interest from several Indian regions to join the collaborative project.
The areas hope to increase yields and improve practices across the pomegranate, mango, citrus and vegetable sectors.
Irrigation experts and representatives from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Goa have expressed interest in joining the project, which has been strengthening farming practices, boosting output and cultivating export-ready fresh produce for several years now.
It operates under the current framework of the Indo-Israel Agriculture Project Cooperation Project (IIAP), with Israeli experts sharing knowledge in India to support the increase in productivity.
One of the main pillars of the IIAP is irrigation management, aimed at improving water use efficiency in agriculture.
The Embassy of Israel in New Delhi, in cooperation with Israel's Agency for International Development Cooperation (MASHAV), will host the second Indo-Israel agriculture workshops for the heads of 26 centre of excellence across 10 Indian states next month.
The workshop will be led by two Israeli experts, Yoram Eisenstadt and Asher Eizenkot, and will consist of lectures, field visits and hands-on training.
Israel is a leading authority and pioneer in irrigation, purifying and water recycling techniques for agriculture, due to its vast regions of arid and semi-arid land.
Subjects at the forthcoming workshop will include micro irrigation techniques, water quality principles and advanced irrigation control technology.
