Russia destroys Turkish mandarins found in Stavropol store
After receiving criticism last year for burning banned European food imports, Russian authorities have recently destroyed a Turkish shipment of mandarins.
The move is in line with restrictions on Turkish produce imports that have officially been in place since Jan. 1, as a response to the downing of a Russian jet near the Turkish-Syrian border last year.
Local news agency RBC reported the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) office in Stavropol bulldozed 225kg of Turkish fruit.
The action followed a raid conducted by Federal Security Service (FSB) officers in one of the region's stores on Jan. 8, selling mandarins imported on Jan. 5.
