UK: Sprouting seed kitchen gadget launched by Waitrose

British high-end grocer Waitrose has launched a new kitchen gadget that grows seeds in the home. waitrose sprouter kit

The 'Sprouter Kit' has three trays allowing consumers to grow the sprouting seeds over several days and at the same time stagger the cultivation process so as to produce a continual stock.

Sprouts are very young plants, one stage up from a seed and they keep growing until picked, providing a flow of fresh produce.

Waitrose stocks two varieties from the Good 4 U brand; Super Sprouts which contain sprouted alfalfa, clover, radish and broccoli and a Lentil Sprout Mix containing sprouted mung bean, lentil crimson, adzuki bean and chickpea.

"Sprouting seeds have been a key ingredient in Asian cuisine for many years. The seeds can easily be grown to eat as sprouts with each variety boasting a unique flavour," Jane Westoby from Waitrose says.

The BioSnacky Sprouter Kit is on sale for ÂŁ18 (US$25.50) with seeds priced from ÂŁ5 (US$7) for a pack of four different mixes.
