Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) intends to broaden the amount of information available about food origins on barcodes, state newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported.

Rosselkhoznadzor deputy Head Nikolay Vlasov said his agency was ready to implement the plan within two years.

The move is set to allow access a wide range of information from their smartphones including where the product was stored, in what condition, when and by whom it was transported, who did it belong to, who manufactured it, and which farm the raw materials came from.

The story reported the technology was applied at the start of 2014 with certain establishments involved in the production and trade of food, processing accompanying documents for cargo electronically.

Vlasov said a large number of participants in the food industry were interested in using the dynamic stickers.

"For them it will be more comfortable in the context of making the delivery procedure automatic," he was quoted as saying.
