Colombia: Uniban security chief murdered
The head of security at the Union of Colombian Banana Growers (UNIBAN) was murdered yesterday morning, newspaper El Colombiano has reported.
The story reported Jesús Delgado was shot by two men while traveling in a company car in the department of Urabá.
Urabá Police commander Javier Sierra confirmed the act took place at 10am with the assailants firing from a motorcycle.
Sierra told the publication the authorities had deployed a judicial police team to investigate the crime.
In a statement, the Colombian Banana Growers' Association (AUGURA) expressed its condolences.
"The Colombian Banana Growers' Association AUGURA, regrets, rejects and vehemently repudiates the cruel murder of Mr Jesús Delgado who served as Chief of Security at C.I. Comercializadora UNIBAN," AUGURA president Juan Camilo Restrepo said.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to his family members in such difficult times and we send prayers to God for his eternal rest.
"We express our full support of the corresponding authorities so that they can carry out the investigations to clear up this homicide which fills our banana industry with mourning."
