Turkey to export cherries to China
The world's leading cherry-growing nation has secured access to what may become the biggest market in years to come.Â
A spokesperson for the China Entry & Exit Inspection Quarantine Association (CIQ) told www.freshfruitportal.com the organization was currently in the process of selecting inspectors to visit Turkish orchards.
The move follows on from a protocol signing for the fruit that took place during the G20 Summit held in Turkey in November last year.
Rick Chong, director of North American company Sutherland Produce, said his group was working with a Turkish partner to export cherries to China.
He said there were indications Chinese inspectors could visit the farm in May.
