Ivory Coast to supply organic pineapples year-round to OTC
OTC-Holland says it will begin receiving weekly arrivals of organic pineapples from the Ivory Coast next month, reaping the fruit of efforts that started with local growers in 2014.
In May the company received its first organic pineapples from the West African country, with high fruit quality reported.
In Bonoua, the leading pineapple-growing area, OTC supports the growers with financing and advice. Together with growers, the organization also invests in infrastructure so that the pineapples are optimally harvested, sorted, packaged and transported.
The fruit will be sold under the new brand Mmmbio, with the distinctive green logo in the shape of a honeycomb.
"In the Ivory Coast OTC works with growers on the 'OTC Social Upliftment’ program. In exchange for OTC’s commitment, OTC ask their partners to develop a social project in which education plays a key role," the company said.
"Starting this week, OTC will receive a weekly container of organic pineapples in the OTC bio handling center in Poeldijk."
