Peru: CPF adds Sweet Jubilee to table grape export offering
The Fruit Growers Consortium of Peru (CPF) is adding a new variety to its table grape export offering this season, with the campaign officially getting under way this week.
Speaking with www.freshfruitportal.com, the entity's commercial manager Lavesh Mirpuri said the first Sweet Jubilee grapes, developed by International Fruit Genetics (IFG), would be exported this year.
"We are projecting to export 200 containers of table grapes during Peru's early window, over the months of October, November and December," he said.
"Along with the supply of Red Globe, Crimson and Superior, this campaign we will offer a new variety that is patented in California, Sweet Jubilee, a black seeded variety that is characterized by its color, large and firm berries, crunchy texture and higher brix level than Red Globe."
CPF hopes the Sweet Jubilee export season will get underway in week 45, with 70 containers forecast to be shipped.
Asia is the target market for the Sweet Jubilee, but the company is hoping to increase the number of markets it ships to in order to build awareness of the variety, and Mirpuri said there would also be volumes going to the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Central America.
"In addition, CPF's growth with table grapes is not limited just to Sweet Jubilee - we also have a license to grow other varieties like Jack's Salute and Sweet Celebration, amongst others, which are being developed in a major project over 400 hectares," he said.
The representative added CPF's expansion into new table grape varieties was partly due to its goal of solidifying its Malki brand in international markets.
