Chiquita to launch redesigned banana box
U.S.-headquartered multinational Chiquita Brands International has announced it will roll out new global banana boxes from the start of next year.
The design is said to be more structurally sound, while allowing for the most stable transport on pallets. They also have a new 'consistent cooling' design, helping the fruit to ripen evenly.
The company said that market tests supported by the company’s ripening facility showed there were more equal ripening temperatures and better color uniformity when using the new boxes.
"Our goal is to continue to provide the highest quality products to people all over the world, which is why we are committed to creating more efficient transportation methods of our fruit," vice president of North America Chris Dugan said in a release.
"We’re excited to see improvements in the quality of fruit that arrives to our partners, as well as the cost efficiencies that these new boxes will create."
The company also said the new boxes would create less food waste by avoiding unnecessary damage and over-ripening of the fruit during transport.
The boxes will also include new imagery and a 'cleaner look' to represent Chiquita’s newest brand messaging and colors.
