Indian produce exports rose by almost a third in 2016

Significant jumps in exports of table grapes, bananas and coconuts buoyed India to a 29% year-on-year rise in produce shipments in 2016, reaching 911,611 metric tons (MT).

According to ITC statistics, the sharpest rise out of the key products was in table grapes at a rate of 94% to hit 147,012MT, however this was off the back of a lull in 2015.

Table grape exports were only slightly lower in 2014 (136,740MT) and were just higher in 2013 (148,521MT).

Coconut shipments rose 69% to reach 147,013MT while banana exports were up 39% at 111,803MT, with the latter driven by a surge in sales to Nepal, Iran, Oman and Kuwait.

The leading category was 'guavas, mangoes and mangosteens', increasing 11% to 193,383MT, however the service does not provide a break-down of the category, which itself is down 16% on the 2013 figure of 231,208MT.
