Russia, Turkey sign joint statement to lift trade sanctions
Russia and Turkey have taken another step forward toward repairing trade ties that have been damaged ever since Turkish forces shot down a military jet on the Syrian border in 2015.
The joint statement on lifting bilateral trade restrictions was signed by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich and Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek.
The signing occurred after talks between Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim.
In October last year Russia lifted the ban on Turkish stonefruit and citrus, but Turkish vegetable growers have been crippled by ongoing sanctions on other crops, most notably tomatoes.
The joint statement was not made available on the Russian Government's website, however stay tuned for more news at Fresh Fruit Portal as the story develops.
