India's IG International 'zeroes in' on Aussie company for JV
Leading Indian fresh produce company IG International is reportedly in talks with an Australian firm for a possible joint venture to grow crops like avocados, blueberries and dragon fruit in the South Asian country.
The information was disclosed by IG director Tarun Arora in an interview with the Economic Times of India.
"We were talking to a number of global players," he was quoted as saying.
"However, we have now zeroed in on an Australian company. The discussions are underway. We hoping to clinch a deal with the company within next two months time [sic]."
The produce company registered turned over of 500,000,000 rupees (US$7.7 million) in the 2017 financial year and is aiming to boost that by a fifth this fiscal year, the story reported.
IG has also decided to spend nearly 65,000,000 rupees (US$1 million) on fresh cold storage facilities across India, adding to the 14 it already has, according to the Economic Times of India.
"We have just added one more at Mumbai at Khopoli on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The newest facility will supplement the brand’s existing cold storages facilities in Maharashtra and will cater to IGIPL’s own fresh produce consumption," he was quoted as saying.
"We will be adding more such cold storages in Kolkata, NCR, Krishnapatnam and Chennai. Once these new facilities are in place our capacity will increase from 40,000 tonnes to 60,000 tonnes."
