Peruvian fruit industry unscathed by earthquake, claims mango sector chief
Peruvian Mango Growers' Association (Promango) president Ángel Gamarra says there haven't been any damages to his industry or other fruit crops as a result of the earthquake that shook the country's north on Monday morning.
The epicenter of the 6.2-magnitude was 43km (27mi) east of Máncora in Piura, and was also felt in Tumbes, Lambayeque and in southern Ecuador.
"The shake was very tough. People went to the streets. It was for a short time but very strong," a resident told local radio station RPP.
Despite the event's strength, at the time of writing there had not yet been any reports of fatalities or major damages, with the Peruvian Civil Defense reporting there were two people with minor injuries.
"Everything is working normally," Ángel Gamarra told Fresh Fruit Portal, adding there had not been damage to fruit crops.
