Colombian police find 7MT of cocaine on banana farm
Colombian authorities have discovered a huge load of cocaine on a banana farm believed to be worth US$200 million, according to website Mercado Militar.
Police found seven metric tons (MT) of the drug which they say belong to the Gulf's Clan cartel and were to be sent to the U.S.
The discovery was made in the northern province of Antioquia, the story said.
Five people were reportedly arrested as part of the operation, during which gunfire was exchanged with the traffickers.
"The shipment was to be first sent to Central America, and later to the final destination of the United States, camouflaged in legal shipments of bananas and fruits," Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas was quoted as saying.
The Gulf's Clan is reportedly the biggest drug trafficking group in the country and has been linked with Mexican cartels.
