NatureFresh announces Ontario greenhouse expansion project
Canada-based NatureFresh Farms has announced a new expansion project to take place in Leamington, Ontario, that will see the construction of a 32-acre greenhouse facility.
Works are due to begin in the summer, with production beginning early 2019.
A range of tomato varieties will be grown using supplemental lighting, which the company said will allow for year-round production of fresh Canadian tomatoes.
The expansion will allow NatureFresh to meet with the increased demand in the tomato market, with varieties such as TOMZ Snacking Tomatoes, Tomatoes-on-the-Vine, and Beefsteak Tomatoes all being grown.
The greenhouses will be equipped with the same high-tech growing technologies that can be seen at NatureFresh's facility in Ohio.
NatureFresh executive retail sales accounts manager Matt Quiring says the company is expecting the Leamington project to be just as successful as in Ohio.
"The first full growing season in our Ohio greenhouse has been very successful so far, so with the same technology that we use in Ohio being implemented in our new Leamington greenhouse, we expect similar success," he said.
"We should see higher production, greater efficiency in the growing process, and consistently high-quality products from our new Canadian greenhouse."
