U.S.: Farmers advocate a stronger farm bill in Washington D.C.
More than a dozen U.S. farmers and farm advocates from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic recently traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate a stronger Farm Bill.
The National Farmers Union (NFU) office hosted an event with an overview of the House Farm Bill proposal, H-R 2, and farmers union's priorities for the legislation.
It said special attention was paid to working lands conservation programs and programs that support the development and growth of diverse, local, regional, and organic markets.
Following their meeting, the group met up with the majority and minority staff members of the Senate Agriculture Committee, "discussing the expectations of the chamber for the legislation, asking questions, sharing stories and voicing opinions about specific programs of the bill," the NFU said.
It said participants were then split based on region and had the opportunity to meet and discuss with their state and district legislators and agriculture legislative aides, before reconvening later to meet with the minority staff of the House Agriculture Committee, who delved into more detail about H-R 2 and the possible outcomes of the vote.
