Panama: Del Monte subsidiary to export first bananas in coming weeks
Banapiña, a Panama-based subsidiary of U.S. multinational Del Monte, is reportedly planning to export the first bananas from its 'reactivated' farm in mid-February.
A batch of 4,000 boxes will is due to be shipped to the U.S. market on Feb. 18, said company spokesperson Ramón MarcÃas, according to local media Prensa.
Banapiña began producing bananas again in May 2018 in Baru, after signing a deal with the Panama Government under which the company promised to invest US$100 million.
Panama President Juan Carlos Varela visited the area to verify the advance of the economic activity, according to the article.
