Avocados "increasingly favored" in India, says IG International
Indian importer and distributor IG International says it has brought in its first shipment of Peruvian Hass avocados to the country amid growing demand.
The company plans to import 1000 metric tons (MT) of the fruit, which will be distributed across Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Cochin.
IG is pricing the avocados at 750 rupees (US$10.60) per kilogram.
“Avocados are increasingly becoming a favoured food amongst Indians today," said IG chairman Gian Chand Arora. "They are used in guacamole, spreads, salads and sauces to accompany meals. In addition to this, they have several health benefits too.
"At IG International, we have always strived to bring in the best produce to consumers, straight from the source. Hass avocados are the most popular type of avocado worldwide. We have been planning to bring this rich variant to our consumers in India, and it is great to have received the first shipment of this season.
"With the unique taste of Peruvian Hass avocados, we are sure consumers will truly taste the difference, and benefit from making these a
part of their regular diet.”
IG also recently noted that blueberries - another superfood that is relatively unknown in India - are also gaining traction among consumers.
