The Grape Reporter recently caught up with Dirk Winkelmann, President at Vanguard Direct, one of the world's leading grape suppliers, to hear some of his thoughts on where the industry is heading, the 2021-22 season, and the significant disruption that lies ahead.
"New varieties are like popular music. What is now classic rock was the vanguard of its epoch," says John Pandol.

Last year China's grape exports totaled US$1.21 billion while Peru exported US$991 million, according to the country's Association of Exporters (ADEX).
Southern Hemisphere table grape varieties have expanded over the last ten years and are expected to continue to grow in popularity, leaving the older varieties behind.
In addition, if forecasts are realized, this year could also mark the first time Peru surpasses Chile in production, the USDA report said.
