Market situation in the Northern Hemisphere, week 16 — 2012 (Apr. 20)

Apples

In North America, the U.S. market continued with moderate sales for imported Gala.

In Latin America, the Mexican market remained competitive because of significant U.S. volumes. Brazil's market was stable and Colombia saw good prices for small-sized Royal Gala.

In Europe, there were moderate sales with lower offshore arrivals giving market stability.

In Asia, slight price adjustments were registered in Hong Kong and mainland China.

Avocados

In North America, Mexican avocados dominated Hass supplies in the U.S.

In Latin America, Chile showed stable Hass sales.

In Europe, there were inventory build ups of Peruvian green-skinned avocados in the U.K.

Easy Peelers

In Europe, Argentine and South African supplies, and the variety Ortanique, generated adequate sales before a downward pressure on inventories.

In the U.K, Spanish fruit showed active sales due to decreased availability.

In Russia, mandarin sales benefitted from a receptive consumer market.

Kiwifruit

In North America, the U.S. market changed to Chilean supply.

In Latin America, Brazil experienced price adjustments due to increased Chilean exports in addition to domestic and Italian supplies.

In Europe, Italian kiwifruit continued to dominate the market.

Pears

In North America,  Southern Hemisphere's Bosc experienced slow trading in the U.S. market. Argentine Williams were still available in the U.S., although it was expected they would be sold out within the next week.

In Latin America, stable prices were reported for Chilean Packham's in Colombia, while the market in Brazil was receptive for Argentine supply.

In Europe, pear trading was stable on the Continent with adequate movement and offshore supply to the U.K. and Russia.

Stonefruit

In North America, the Chilean plum season is nearing an end in the U.S.

In Latin America, the Colombian market reported slower trading due to rainy weather.

In Europe, adequate trading was reported for the last Southern Hemisphere plum supply.

In Asia, imported plums looked sound and showed stable sales activity.

Table Grapes

In North America, there were slight price increases for Thompson seedless on both U.S. coasts and trading remained stable.

In Latin Ameria, there was moderate sales pace on Thompson seedless and Red Globe. In Mexico, high volumes of Red Globe of variable condition led to moderate sales.

In Europe, Crimson seedless and Red Globe volumes were expected to peak.

In the Middle East, stable market activity was seen in Saudi Arabia.

In Asia, Chile dominated Crimson seedless supply in Hong Kong and mainland China.
